It may be just the moment to buy consumer-discretionary stocks, 22V Research says, even though retail stocks’ performance was mixed on Black Friday.
While the SPDR S&P Retail ETF closed about 0.1% lower, the sector seems poised to benefit from a combination of better-than-expected business fundamentals and an improvement in macroeconomic conditions, according to a team of strategists led by Dennis DeBusschere, 22V’s president and chief market strategist
“Labor market tail risks, tariffs and lower end consumer headwinds have been an overhang on the group. Those headwinds are fading,” they wrote in a research note Friday.
